Meeting called to order by town chairman Brad Steinmetz at 7:40
p.m. at the conclusion of a driveway ordinance hearing. All elected
officials present and they were chairman Steinmetz, Dwain Jeffers and Myron
Richard on the town board, clerk Lonnie Muller and treasurer Bonnie Potter.
Several people were in attendance that stayed over from the
ordinance hearing.
Verification of proper posting of meeting was confirmed.
Motion by Jeffers, seconded by Richard to approve last month's
minutes. All yes votes.
Motion by Richard, seconded by Jeffers to approve financial report
and payment of bills. All yes votes.
Citizen discussion period: Bruce Tosch was concerned about R-value
of proposed cabins; Mike Bonner questioned the board's vision; Dale Parker
responded to Bonner and stated that the zoning ordinance kind of answers that
question; David Mick and Mike Bonner questioned the power of the zoning board;
Tom Kotten stated that the cabin proposal was a $1.6 million dollar investment.
Steve Hatton stated his taxes went up 16%, clerk disputed that statement.
Informational reports; Richard stated he attended a very informational
Vernon County Landfill sponsored dinner at Viroqua, April 29th is tentative
Spring Cleanup Day and still at half price, Vernon Telephone sent chairman a
franchise agreement and will be placed on next month's agenda, a reminder of
upcoming WTA meeting in Richland Center and Myron will drive, and a reminder
that the terms of zoning board members Jon Zahm and Gary Leatherberry expires
in May. Steinmetz stated there will be an Emergency Management meeting May 5th
in Richland Center and he plans on attending. (He later cancelled those plans)
No old business.
New business: Francis Hynek spoke to the board and guests about
his campaign for county board and received a round of applause.
Action on zoning committee’s recommendation for a zoning
change on Newburn Road which the zoning board turned down. Motion by Richard to
accept the zoning boards recommendation but with a stipulation that
alternatives be offered to Mr. Fisher. 2nd by Jeffers. All 3 yes on a
roll call vote. Clerk instructed to send letter to Mr. Fisher to ask to
reapply and willing to alter w/less houses on property.
Action on proposed driveway ordinance change: Steinmetz said too
much opposition to the proposed ordinance and doesn't feel board can act on
it. David Mick questioned 14% grade and LaVern Barclay asked to eliminate
14%. A $25 driveway permit also recommended instead of $50. Motion by Jeffers,
2nd by Richard to accept new driveway ordinance except to drop the grade
requirements and change permit fee from $50 to $25. All 3 yes vote.
Clerk to advertise for gravel and sealcoat bids.
Property to be reassessed this year, assessor is not on a computer
system, try and get assessor to the next meeting.
Steinmetz will check on a laptop computer for the town.
Motion by Jeffers, 2nd by Richard to adjourn. Adjourned 9:17
